Spring Showcase

Welcome to the Spring Showcase of music production projects! Unlike our traditional ensembles, music production doesn't culminate in a live performance. Instead, it's best shared digitally.

Each term will feature a specific theme, delving into new aspects of music production while reinforcing previously learned skills.

About the modules:

Music for Film

This module gave students an exciting introduction to composing music specifically for film. Focusing on precision and timing, they learned to work to timecodes rather than relying solely on traditional bars and beats. Students explored a range of sound effects, discovering how to incorporate them into their compositions, as well as how to apply “master” effects, such as EQ filters, across an entire track.

For this project, they composed music for a short film called Spark, which tells the story of a robot worker in a factory who encounters music for the first time.

Music for Game

This was our most ambitious project yet, introducing students to basic coding as they created two levels (or more) of a video game from scratch. Students had complete autonomy over their entire project—from developing their initial game concepts to coding the mechanics and designing the gameplay. Once their game framework was in place, they moved on to composing thematic music and sound effects, carefully selecting specific loops and sounds to match their game's atmosphere. Using a library of 8-bit samples, they crafted immersive soundtracks that brought their creations to life, whether it was a space adventure, a fantasy quest, or an intense boss fight.

Projects have been arranged into videos, containing gameplay, music, and a final section showing their complex code.
